First an important useful information about cabs in Greece:
Before you go by taxi you should discuss with the taxidriver about the price for the trip, so you can´t get bad suprise.
In Greece the taxidriver uses to take the money from each group of persons, although he have to drive only once.
The best way is to take some people from the airport who have the same way, and go as one group to the taxi.

If you arrive by plane, you will have the choice between the airport of Thessaloniki and the airport of Kavala (Chrissoupoli).

Arrivel at airport of Thessaloniki:
If you arrive at the airport of Thessaloniki you need a transfer to Kavala. Here you can choose to go by bus, taxi or by a hired car.
  • The most expensive connection to Kavala will be the transfer by taxi. The taxi needs about 2,5 hours and you have to pay between 80,00 and 100,00 €. The luggage could cost some extra money.
And don´t forget to negotiate about the price!

  • A favorable alternate is to rent a car. The prices for hired cars depends of the period of tenancy and the company.
With some flights you can also book a hired car. Normally you will get the car at the airport directly.
If you will go by a hired car, here the travel-description to Kavala:
direction Thessaloniki on the road-number E90 to the direction of Kavala
    exit Kavala/Amigdaleonas
    direction Kavala - ferry boat

When you arrived in Kavala you have to drive directly to the harbour of the ferry boats. You will find the harbour near the shore-promenade. Here you take the ferry boat to Thassos/Prinos.
The boat trip will cost about 4,00 € per person and for the car between 15,00 and 20,00 € (it depends from the size of the car).
The trip will take about 90 minutes.

If you want to go by ferry boat from Keramoti you don´t have to use the exit Kavala/Amigdaleons. You will drive in direction to Chrissoupoli and then in direction to Keramoti. (time: between 2 3/4 and 3,5 hours, it depends on the traffic)

  • The cheapest way to go to Kavala is by bus. You will pay 0,07 € per kilometer and person. So the trip from
Thessaloniki to Kavala will cost you about 13,00 till 15,00 € per person.
In summertime every 15-30 minutes and in wintertime every 30-45 minutes the bus-line 78 goes from the airport (in front of the check-in-hall) to the bus-terminal in the
center of Thessaloniki (time: about 50 minutes).

You can take the bus which drives every full hour (between 06:00 a.m. and 08:00 p.m.) via the mountains
    (time: about 3 hours).
Or you can take the bus which drives at 09:00 a.m., 12:00 (high noon), 03:00 p.m. and 06:00 p.m. via Nea Peramos
    (time: about 2 hours).
The busses arrives in Kavala near the harbour of the ferry boats. On the same place you can take the bus back to Thessaloniki.
